dancing fish

i guess the restaurant was named after one of their dishes, the dancing fish - deep fried fish twisted in such a way that it looks like it's dancing? LOL. we decided to go out for iftar on Saturday last weekend, ever since mil's passing we never did manage to have a proper iftar together as a family. i tried calling Muhibbah, the line was always engaged. tried to book for Serai, but every outlet happened to be fully booked (come back 8.30pm they said. whaaa..? orang Mesia minat sungguh berbuka luar noh?).

we decided to go to Dancing Fish at Setia City Mall for iftar (also because i tried calling and managed to get a booking there haha). it was our first time here. sil and bil have been here a couple of times already, even fil went there a few days ago, haha. the kids were supposed to come too, but they were all flat by the time we were about to leave (and it's an utter pain to deal with cranky kids abruptly awoken from their short slumber) so we left them behind. ooops. bil's friend tagged along for iftar, so that's 6 of us. no photos of the 6 of us, i was too engrossed in food to take any.

*remind thyself to charge my camera batteries*

you get a 10% discount off the bill if you pay with a CIMB credit card. i'm no food reviewer so this entry is just merely to share what we ordered for iftar that night. i actually not a fan of Indonesian cuisine. but Dancing Fish is Indo-Malay, so i guess the food here's ok. you had the option of ordering their set menu for Ramadhan, but we decided to go ala carte instead.

we ordered:
- 1/2 bbq spring chicken
- daging masak kicap
- udang sambal petai (er, i didn't notice any petai)
- dancing fish (w sambal terasi and kicap)
- gulai pucuk paku
- kailan w salted fish

they had a little dessert table in the corner, not sure how they charged us for (sil footed the bil, fil belanje). between the 6 of us we managed to finish everything (except for the pucuk paku, sil didn't seem to like it for some reason).

Dancing Fish - Malay-Indo cuisine
bits n pieces taken from the dessert table
Significant Other ordered milo
earl grey tea. was amused at how 'big' the teapot was
starters: empeng with sambal terasi
the dancing fish, gulai pucuk paku, bbq spring chicken
udang sambal (petai?), kailan w salted fish
the daging masak kicap came last

everyone went for prayers first before digging in. i must say, the way in to the surau was poorly designed - one dedicated walkway to get to both the men and women's surau. imagine both men and women queueing up to get in, plus the people leaving the surau, i could barely find my shoes amidst the number of people standing and waiting in line @_@. fil was right about going to the surau first before digging in, the crowd literally swelled in numbers by the time we were done with prayers. i think i now know why it's better to break fast at home, hee~.

we wanted to watch a movie but GSC didn't show 'The Conjuring'. pffffft. so we went shopping! well sil did, anyways. she bought stuff at Uniqlo. managed to get myself a pair of jeans i've been eyeing aeons ago while i was fat, but it needs length altering though. sil also added more charms to her Pandora collection, so jealous!!! #$(*#(@(*#&*$% *mentally adding that to my wishlist once i've sold off a few more wraps*.

raya is less than a week away. how time flies, seriously. i'm still on maternity leave so i didn't have to deal with the terrific Ramadhan jam. will be raya-ing locally this year. am so not looking forward to work in two weeks' time. i checked my mail the other day only to find that the company's organizing Sports Day? and guess who got the last pick due to not being in the office? *groans*.

the oxygen tank

a few months ago mil was having difficulties in breathing so the family thought an oxygen tank might be useful. so we started calling the nearby hospitals in case they happened to offer rental services.
apparently most hospitals don't have such service, but they were nice and gave us a couple of numbers to call that do happen to provide oxygen tank rental services. they deliver to your front door, with a service charge fee.

24-hour hotline: 03-33715005

deposit: rm300 (refundable upon returning the tank)
rental: rm300
delivery charge: rm80
refill: rm300

the only thing that you might need to take note if you choose to take on their service is that the tanks that they provide are the 2-metre tall kind, not the small portable ones that you might find elsewhere. since the tank alone is bloody heavy, they won't allow you to bring it upstairs unless you're prepared to pay in the event of any chipped marble staircase (for those living in double-storey homes, unless you have an elevator hidden somewhere).

we had an oxygen party yesterday before calling them to return the tank.

see how huge it is?
when the indicator reaches yellow, it's time to call for a refill
you need a trolley to cart out that humungous tong
right up to your front door

thought it might be useful just in case you happen to need this service one day in the future. taa~

rehoming

rosie, aiko, lila. aren't they gorgeous?
they're looking for new homes at the moment. would you like to adopt one?

they're low maintenance, requires occasional washes and tons of snuggles.

(top to bottom):
1. rosenholz 50% linen. $400. measures roughly about 4m. *withdrawn*
2. japanese knot aiko chiisai 50% linen. $350. bought as a size 5. *sold*
3. lila azzuro 40% linen. $585. bought as a size 6. *sold*

i just realized after taking the above photo that it should've been an inspiration for my pamir makeover. unfortunately i'm pro-blue, so this is what became of it:

let's hope Pos Malaysia is working twice as hard this time of year.

raya's approaching. bukak tutup mata n it's already a week before raya approaches. this august would be a very expensive month, it's that time of year when three birthdays are due, the car insurance and roadtax are due, duit raya is due... err what else?

the water heater literally blew its fuse last month after faithfully providing hot water for us and bil for the past 2 years. what little i've learned from this experience:

storage water heater:
- provides hotter water than the instant version
- uses up more electricity
- switch needs to be turned off when not in use, else the heating element might get fried
- if you think the water tank is empty, make sure the switch is off too, else the heating element will defo be fried
- warranty covered only up to a year, but up to 5 years for body leakage

instant water heater:
- heats up water at the time of use
- depending on what brand you buy, the pressure pump may or may not make loud noises when you turn it on
- warranty up to 5 years for the heating element

water heater knowledge 101 for dummies, i know. somebody has already gone to test drive the hot water, lol.

heating element: rm190
thermostat: rm160
labor charge: rm60
me? X____X

we got katz

Uncle Amal brought home two new members of the family about 1-2 weeks ago. i forgot to introduce them.

Oats
Sparkle
photos stolen from Amal's instagram

he came home late one night all eksaited. "i bought a cat!" he exclaimed excitedly. and not long after that, we were introduced to those two: Blackie and Whitey.

LOL. marah Uncle Amal.

the black one's called Captain Oats. Oatsy for short. Quaker Oats will start forming in my brain each time his name is mentioned. it's a he. Dayana would pronounce it as Ooopsie. LOL.

the white one's called Princess Sparkle. it's a she (duh). she's very the garang, she actually hissed at me the first time we met. i wanted to call her Sparky but Uncle Amal wouldn't let me. "she's a girl!" he said. fiiiiiine.

not really sure whether they're royal bred or what. but they both are long-haired. between the two i think Oatsy's the cutest. his face is too adorable for words. shame that he doesn't know how to clean his butt properly.

i volunteer to replenish their food and water. but not shovel their poop. i currently have my own fair share of poop shoveling from my three lovely breathing eating sleeping super mini machines.

the kids love them cats. i hope the cats aren't too traumatized by my kids. when they first arrived at the house Dayana sibuk cari her iPod telling me that she wants to take photos of the cats. i'm the superstitious type: never take photos of cats. don't ask me why. due to past experience with so many cats back in Alor Setar i guess.

i hope they grow up to be fat lazy cats like Garfield. amen.

destructable she

i didn't think that Dinara would be the aggressive type, but somehow the term 'handle with care' doesn't seem to jive with her when it comes to her toys. take the following photo for instance. i bought these figurines for the kids since they were so into princesses. Dinara's favorite is 'Lela'. and now look what has happened to her favorite lady:

a beheaded Cinderella

i am guessing the three of them got into a catfight over some supercharming prince which resulted in the beheading of poor Cinderella T___T.
i interrogated both Snow White and Aurora, both of them denying everything. such conspiracy, even between Disney princesses.
tsk.

a month or so earlier i lined up all princesses together for a photo (you know, the ones police take when they want a victim to pick out a suspect?). guess who seemed to have lost a limb or two X___X.

spot the limbless T___T

i seriously think Aurora is the culprit because she was nowhere to be found when i took the above photo. bahahahahahah.

it ain't easy being a princess.

ramadhan 2013

something to think about this year would be how to maintain milk supply...
