stewie and uppy in memory

two of my wraps left home recently. they were destined for greater love. i was happy to have been able to own them, even if it was only for awhile.

Stewed Rhubarb Handmade left to live with a diso mama in the US. this one was special to me because it came from the weaver's collection. i waited forever to this unicorn to come along. it has weft changes on one tail, making it unique in its own way. it still is my unicorn :) maybe one day it'll come back to me, who knows. i know the new owner is loving it to pieces :) (and i hope she remembers dibs :D)

SRH Ukee, Fuschia Weft

Uppymama Shooting Star has been another one of my iso since 2014 when uppys were highly coveted (now not much so due to another slightly overrated brand) but i've always loved this one, mainly because it's pastel and i love the color combination - cream weft makes the warp colors pop. i'm reminded of that Rainbow Revolutions Pamir that i've always wanted but has always been out of my reach. the only drawback is that it's a size 6 and i don't really do size 6s that well. anyway, it's already in the States as well now, also being equally loved :) also happy that i'm able to have once owned this before.

Uppymama Shooting Star, Cream Weft

so here's what i'm left with, more or less. pretty much different from the previous years eh? LOL. the four that i can't bring myself to let go. yet.

before and after

just a little insight of how my custom wraps came to be. i'm only just a sister, i suck at creativity.
it really is a mind boggling process, this wrap weaving.
there's your share of patient or crazy weavers, and then there's crazy fickle minded customers =P.
the weft color you choose makes a huge difference in the final look of the wrap.
and that's not including your decision on the wrap fibers and the weave you decide to go with.
or whatever special embellishments you decide to go with, i.e. tail accents, middle markers, etc etc.

i still babywear... occasionally

my rhubabe

i think she's about 11kg-ish? this wrap gives great support single layer. hmmm. maybe i'll hoard it. maybe not.
the youngest is eager to use her legs so not much wearing with her. i don't really mind.
it's really more of a hobby than an obsession.
if these wraps were wider, i'd have converted them into blankets by the time i'm done with them =P.

meanwhile... on a loom somewhere... this is currently being warped. my friend has such a good eye in colors. i'm colorblind, haha.

babywearing made simple

remember that little photo shoot i attended at my friend Adrin's house a couple of months (or many months... i forgot haha) ago for her little book project?

a few days ago my friend Shasha texted me... apparently she came across the book at MPH Nu Sentral. she 'saw the cover, flipped inside and saw me' was her words. haha. she even sent me a photo. lol.

that's me! and Sophia =D
wrap: Jumpsacbaby

i haven't seen the book in real life yet... i went downstairs and asked MPH to look up the book for me... but they came up with zilch results T_T.
(either they got the title wrong or they were too lazy to look it up proper for me... oh well)

Babywearing Made Simple, by Adriana Thani

anyway, the book's out, titled Babywearing Made Simple, available at (most if not all, apparently) MPH bookstores. or you could get it online at a 15% discount. Adrin will be having a book launch soon for those who'd like to have their book signed - i know i want my copy signed by her =D.

perfect book for those who'd like to dip their toes into the waters of babywearing. nobody could've describe things better like Adrin can. that's her on the book cover, btw. except that now she sports a head full of blonde. lol.

now... to hunt for a copy of my own. tsk.

more zat love

i was given the opportunity to try more zatgebos of a different kind: twill, and plain weave EC.
(thanks hani n ciayin)

Aneto Blue 4.3m $344
blue mercerized cotton weft
313 g/qm, 28 inches wide

zatgebo aneto
really dense of a wrap :O
new labeling
middle marker

Nebula
Egyptian Cotton Weft
(umm i don't have much details on this yet)

zatgebo nebula
much more softer in comparison

i didn't take a photo of the middle marker, but it's a weaved in thicker thread like my Reflections.

this has got to be my most favorite colored wrap, because of the pink n purple LOL.
aaand despite me hating dark colored wraps.
it's ridiculously soft too!
too bad the lengths about 3.55m. i can barely eek out an FWCC.

action shot in front of mucky mirror =P

wrap verdict:

1. i find Aneto to be very dense, i think my arms ached just trying to wrap with it (bahahahah). i think a ruck length would suit me better. i find twills differ from one wrap to another, so i can't simply assume that twill is thick.

2. love the Nebula colors, but it's abit too soft for my liking to use with my 8kg+ kiddo. i think i would prefer my Reflections better. Nebula would make a very good squishie wrap!

maybe i'll iso a plain weave one day. i've still got a few scratches to itch in the meantime.
=)

zatgebo reflections

i was lucky to have been able to own this beautiful wrap for awhile before it flew off to its new owner earlier today. this wrap came to me quite unexpectedly, the previous owner was looking for a trade and i jokingly offered my zatgebo nightfall (of which the length and colors were not quite my taste). who knew she was actually interested, and so we traded for each other's wraps. and so home it came to me =).

the mastermind behind the beauty of Zatgebo is Wendi Stemmons. did you know each letter in the brand name represents the name of each of her children, in order of birth? planned or coincidence? lol.

zatgebo reflections, heather weft

zatgebo reflections is 100% cotton, it's a size 4.1m, plain weave, heather weft. it's a blue wrap, so what's not to like? i was already had as soon as the mama sent me her action photos, hahaha.

solid, sturdy

i find this wrap a bit denser than my previous zatgebo nightfall. nightfall was deliciously broken in, reflections wasn't quite so, despite having traveled in an effort to be broken in, still felt the stiffness of a freshly washed wrap. i'm not a fan of that white stripe on one side of the rails, but i love the soft shade of green on the other rail of the wrap.

flat shot

if that 11/13 on the label depicts when the wrap was created, then i guess i actually sold a wrap that has the same birth month as me :O :O :O

zatgebo wrap label

i lent this wrap to a friend for awhile and she offered me to sew on a middle marker. i told her she's going blind the wrap already had one. there wasn't any obvious markers to see, but if you look closer, it actually does have a middle marker. i'm not sure what you call that type of middle marker, but it's a thicker thread that's woven into the wrap, like in the photo below:

middle marker
i love this rail colors

a lousy action shot

ish. just seeing my action photo makes me have a twinge of regret about selling it. to further pour salt onto my injury (haha, ayat!), Significant Other told me the night before that he likes the wrap. and he doesn't do that often ok. but i realize he tends to say stuff like that AFTER i sell them. chis.

am now iso-ing a twill weave zatgebo, just to satisfy my curiosity. i've never have any luck with draws, so i'm glad that my friend has offered me to try her twill for awhile to see whether i like it or not.

and maybe another blue wrap. since i'm a blue color lover, that way. hee~.

alison addicks

another beauty dropped by for a visit for a couple of weeks. this is absolutely gorgeous. and the colors are so ME. i'm so in love. i dibs this a thousand times over! this is my friend's custom, and i'm so glad she allowed me to try an AA. they're such lovelies to wrap with.

look at how floofy it is!

named Sunset Rainbow, the owner tells me the warp is variegated, fuschia weft (lol i find that she has a thing for fuschia haha). not really sure what type of twill this is. it's not thick, but it's really floofy. this wrap has two other sisters (in case one would like to keep track of history).

wrap length is 4.6m, a bit long for a tiny person like me. here's some photo spam =D.

flat photo
middle marker
the tails
the weave

i didn't take any action photos with this wrap unfortunately =(. since the length was so long i didn't really wear it outside of the house for fear of the tails sweeping the floor. the youngest just got her feet recently (and loves her newly found freedom) so she really prefers walking on her own these days, sigh. she won't say no to an uppy, but she seems more happier on the ground =D.

my kid felt weightless as i backcarried her with this wrap. wish i had more opportunities to try this wrap more though. i'm always deterred by long wraps, so i tend to use them (and try them) less.

thanks for the opportunity! i'm smitten with alison addicks now, lolz.

shearwater weaving

being an unlucky one, i've never won wrap draws. but my friend did. and she was very nice to have let me try her wrap for the week. i'm a big fan of blue! Shearwater Weaving is created by Julie Kubik, who resides in Alberta Canada.

Length: 4.1m
Weight: 270 gr/m²
Fiber content: 100% cotton warp - Royal blue cottolin(60% cotton/40% linen) weft.
Middle markers: Medium blue stitched tactile middle markers on both rails.
Unhemmed rails with blunt tails.

Price: $395 CAD

went home and immediately enlisted my youngest for a quick uppy. glad that she doesn't mind uppies =D.

and i gave Magipie a last spin during an outing to the bookstore yesterday. this time i tried back carrying her. i didn't even need much effort when layering the passes (i usually struggle with this haha). sorry for the lousy photos. the other three were busy figuring out what books to buy. hahahaha.

thanks for the visit! at least i managed to satisfy my shearwater curiosity =D

when you wish upon a shooting star

top: shooting star
bottom: reflections

When you wish upon a shooting star
Makes no difference who you are
Anything your heart desires
Will come to you

Like a bolt out of the blue
Fate steps in and sees you through
When you wish upon a shooting star
Your dreams come true

i literally cried when it was time for it to move out.
DISO DISO DISO!

p/s. i am officially down to 7!
